The CHILD-BRIGHT Training & Capacity Building Program is offering up to 10 Travel Awards to offset eligible expenses of students and trainees attending the upcoming 2023 CHILD-BRIGHT Conference (June 8-9, 2023) in Toronto at the Peter Gilgan Centre for Research and Learning.
Valued at up to $1,000, undergraduate students, medical students, graduate-level trainees, and postdoctoral fellows involved with CHILD-BRIGHT projects or supported by CHILD-BRIGHT funding initiatives (e.g. KT Innovation Incubator, Training Innovation Fund, Graduate Student Fellowship, etc.) are eligible for support. Of the 10 Travel Awards, 8 will be earmarked for graduate students/ postdoctoral fellows and 2 for undergraduate students.
Award Details & Eligible Expenses
Following the conference, the Travel Award will reimburse the following eligible expenses up to the value of the award:
Conference registration fee
Hotel accommodation
Transportation:
Economy class travel by air
Reasonable ground transportation (rail, taxi, rideshare, or mileage [$0.57/km])
Parking
Non-conference meals can be reimbursed with detailed receipts. The maximum allowance for meals is $54.00 per day. The following rates are applicable: Breakfast: $10.00 Lunch: $16.00 Dinner: $28.00. All rates are in Canadian dollars and include gratuities. Alcohol reimbursements are not permitted for CHILD-BRIGHT Network events.
Following the conference, Travel Award recipients will be provided with an Expense Claim Form and further instructions on how to submit reimbursement requests up to the value of the confirmed travel award. Detailed receipts as well as proof of payment will be required for reimbursement processing.
Eligibility Requirements
Candidate must be an Undergraduate/MD student, Graduate Trainee, or Postdoctoral Fellow affiliated with (or supported by) CHILD-BRIGHT.
Note: if you are a trainee/student working on a core CHILD-BRIGHT research project, please see the conference Travel & Expense Reimbursement Policy and connect with your PI to explore whether you can be one of the 2 project representatives already supported.
To be considered, a candidate must apply through the online submission form by April 18, 2023.
Following the conclusion of the conference, awardees must submit a report (≤500 words) accompanying the Expense Claim Form summarizing their impressions of the conference and any key lessons learned. (Note: anonymized excerpts may be used in public-facing media or reporting documents to funders).
