WHAT ARE YOU STUDYING AND/OR WHAT ARE YOUR PROFESSIONAL AMBITIONS?
As a dedicated advocate for youth, I aspire to create positive change by fostering leadership, empowerment, and community engagement. My active involvement in multiple youth councils, including roles as Chair for the Missanabie Cree First Nation Youth Council and member of the Nishnawbe Aski Nation Oshkaatisak Youth Council, reflects my commitment to amplifying youth voices. I bring expertise in event planning, social media management, and mentorship, enabling me to connect with and inspire young individuals. Driven by a passion for collaboration and creativity, I aim to build inclusive spaces where youth can thrive and shape their future with confidence.
WHAT ARE YOUR PASSIONS, INTERESTS, AND HOBBIES?
Creative pursuits: Enjoy quilting, painting, photography, and exploring other forms of art to express myself and contribute to inspiring projects.
Reading: Passionate about books that broaden my perspective and fuel my curiosity.
Youth advocacy: Committed to empowering young people through leadership, event planning, and community engagement.
Community involvement: Actively participate in initiatives like Quilts For Survivors to support and bring people together.
CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE WITH BRAIN-BASED DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES?
As someone who is autistic and has attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), I bring a unique perspective shaped by firsthand experience with brain-based developmental disabilities. These experiences have taught me resilience, adaptability, and creative problem-solving. My neurodivergence allows me to approach challenges from innovative angles, maintain a deep sense of empathy, and advocate for inclusivity and understanding. I am passionate about using my experiences to support others, foster awareness, and create environments where diverse perspectives are celebrated and valued.
HOW DID YOU HEAR ABOUT CHILD-BRIGHT?
I first learned about CHILD-BRIGHT through Facebook, where I came across an opportunity to join the National Youth Advocacy Council. This instantly caught my attention, as it aligns with my passion for youth advocacy and making a positive impact.
WHY DID YOU WANT TO GET INVOLVED WITH CHILD-BRIGHT?
As someone recently diagnosed with autism, I feel it’s incredibly important to advocate for others who may be facing similar challenges. Joining CHILD-BRIGHT allows me to use my experiences to raise awareness, promote understanding, and support initiatives that empower individuals navigating brain-based developmental disabilities. This opportunity aligns with my passion for creating positive change and fostering inclusive communities.
WHAT ARE YOUR HOPES FOR THE NATIONAL YOUTH ADVocACY COUNCIL?
My hopes for the National Youth Advocacy Council are that we can continue making a meaningful difference for youth by advocating for their needs and providing useful, impactful information. I aspire to contribute to creating positive change, fostering understanding, and empowering young people to navigate their unique challenges with confidence and support.
