Youth Advisor – National Youth Advisory Panel | Citizen Engagement program | Remote Work | Ideally located in: Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island or Newfoundland

Intended for: Youth who have a lived experience with a brain-based developmental disability

Description of the role: The CHILD-BRIGHT Network is looking for a youth advisor in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island or Newfoundland to join the National Youth Advisory Panel, known as NYAP. The NYAP is composed of youth advisors from across Canada. Their mandate is to advise researchers about optimal youth engagement activities to inform research development throughout the CHILD-BRIGHT Network as well as researchers outside of the Network. NYAP members draw on their own experience and knowledge to do so. The following tasks and responsibilities fall under this mandate: reviewing research protocols, recruitment strategies, communication plans and knowledge translation as well as sharing their perspectives in CHILD-BRIGHT Network reports and blog entries.

For: CHILD-BRIGHT Network – NYAP (Citizen Engagement program)

Works with: NYAP youth advisors and Corinne Lalonde (Citizen Engagement program coordinator)

Engagement details and expected time commitment: The expected time commitment is 2 to 3 hours per month. Partnership on this panel is mostly remote (work from home or location of residence). The commitment to NYAP includes:

  • Attending monthly meetings via teleconference for one hour per month and at least one in-person meeting per year

  • Performing or responding to follow-up actions based on the meetings

  • Participating in decision-making by providing recommendations

Compensation: Compensation will be provided in the form of an honorarium of 1,000$ annually

Requirements for this position:

  • Must be a youth with lived experience with a brain-based developmental disability

  • Must be between the ages of 16 and 29 years old

  • Computer, internet, and telephone access

  • Fluent in English or French*

  • Preferred place of primary residence: Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island or Newfoundland

Specific experiences and skills that could be an asset:

  • Any research experience (not required)

  • Skills in peer support, teamwork, leadership and patient advocacy
